History of the Chateau Buchlovice follows the history of the nearby castle Buchlov, whose owners were Petřvalds of Petřvald, which was an old medieval fortress and became uncomfortable fo nobility in the 17th century. That time Jan Dětřich of Petřvald, built a castle for his wife Eleonora of Colonna-Fels, originally from Italy, but the castle was too cold for her.

The castle is build in the Italian Baroque style, designed by Domenico Martinelli and it is one of the finest complexes of its kind in the country. The castle was built in 1707.
Dynasty of Petřvalds was replaced by Berchtolds in 1800, who lived here until 1945, when the castle was nationalized.

The castle consists of two facing buildings, of which the top before serving economic purposes. Between the buildings is a courtyard with central fountain. Lower ground floor of the building formerly served on the hospitality and residential purposes. Interesting is the sala terrena with rich stucco and mosaic decorations on the walls, situated below the main hall.

Its current appearance was gained in the first two decades of the 20 century (adjustments made architect Dominic Fey).
In 1805, Leopold Berchtold placed a military hospital inside the castle buildings. In 1945 the Castle was moved to the lock state ownership.
